Why can’t I open “View Files” under tools-internet options-settings?
Recently my computer started blocking access to my “view files” under the tools-internet options-settings buttons. I’ve always been able to open it until recently. My wife is able to when she uses the computer under her accunt but I cannot with mine. The computer makes a sound (blocking or no access default sound) I assume. Anybody have this problem and what can I do?
Sounds like your temporary internet cache may be corrupt or contain some corrupt files that are preventing you from deleting them. Your temporary internet files cache is located at:
c:documents and settings[username]local settingstemporary internet files
NOTE: replace [username] with your account name or username. Also, this folder is hidden by default. To see it, click Tools->Folder options… and on the View tab make sure you’ve got the “Show hidden files and folders” option selected. Now click OK.
With internet explorer closed, navigate to the folder above and look inside. Chances are you’ll see a bunch of text files (cookies) and some image files. Select them all and delete them (NOTE: deleting cookies will also delete some stored information from websites you visit frequently such as your email address or username).
After you’ve deleted all the files, open Internet Explorer back up and click Tools->Internet Options and try to view files. There won’t be much there, but it should work now.
If you don’t feel comfortable deleting the files, you may also move them to an alternate location and then move them back once you’ve verified that IE works again.
