DIFFERENT TOOLS IN PHOTOSHOP

Photoshop – how do I do what this youtube video says?
Ok, so I get to 1:14 in the video… Then this box pops up on his screen (in the video)… I think he says its his brush options? But I dont know how to get that up. So I figure I will just click the brush tool and use that… but it wont let me! I clicked all the different tools, and it doesnt change, its just that white hand tool. Can someone help me figure this out!!

oops, heres the video.
select the brush tool, right click, a window should appear, then click on the little arrow and change the options to small thumbnail. that should do it.
