Light Curtain

Light Curtain
How to unscrew a curtain rod securing screw and is too much light seeping out of my curtains?

This is a too part question. I can’t figure out how to unscrew the screw that hold the curtain rod secure, its not a screwdriver because the screw head is round. Here is a pic

I tried using a towel but I still can’t do it and no I don’t have any male friends or family members who can help me. It’s either me or I have to hire a handyman…

Second part is, do you think this is an excessive amount of light seeping through my curtains? After I took these pics I taped the sides of the curtain to the walls but some light still seeps through… Does this look kinda normal or like there is way too much light coming in?
And these are “blackout curtains btw) and light is still seeping in.

First answer is right — get yourself a small pliers so you can grasp the knurled screw head and twist it to the left. You can usually get them for a buck or two at any Dollar store or hardware store. Get a needle-nose one (it has a pointy tip) — they are handy for fixing jewelry and other tasks so it’s a good thing to have around the house anyway.

On the “light leakage” — the only way to prevent that is to install room darkening shades on the window. Drapes hang out beyond the window so of course you will have light reflecting in at the top as your photos show. Room darkening roller shades go right against the glass, on the inside of the window frame. They are cheap and easy to install and will make the room quite dark in combination with your drapes.

Actually, when you buy your pliers, pick up a couple of other tools. Anyone who lives in a home or apartment should have these:

- small hammer
- straight blade screwdriver
- Phillips head screwdriver (looks like a little X on the tip)
- OR get a multi-tip screwdriver set that you can swap different tips into a single handle
- needlenose pliers
- utility knife
- cheap cordless drill and set of small drill bits sizes 1/8″, 3/16″ and 1/4″
- 6″ spirit level
- 20 foot tape measure
- small assortment boxes of wood screws, nails and picture hangers

You can get all of these tools for around $20 at a hardware or dollar store except for the cordless drill which will cost another $20 to $30. Get a plastic tool caddy with a handle or one of the little canvas tool tote bags and keep all the stuff together.

Once you have these tools you can do 90% of minor repair and installation jobs around the house. Once you learn how to do it, it’s fun and you never have to wait around for a guy to come help you. :-)

The second volume of the master Warner Bros. cartoon composer’s work downplays the head-spinning montage of the first in favor of just-as-head-spinning complete scores. They aren’t from the studio’s best-known cartoons but from some of Stalling’s most impressive tempo-warping, all-systems-go pieces, augmented by a few mini-pieces that illustrate the way he could transform barely familiar show tune…

Based on Somerset Maugham’s middling novel Theater, Annette Bening stars as the title character, an aging star of the London stage whose life and the melodramas she performs have come to mirror each other. Composer Mychael Danna sets those conflicts to a score that emphasizes theatrical surfaces and rigid role-playing, utilizing a finely honed classical pastiche approach with parallels to his prev…
